Five Reclaimed Elements to Consider for Your Bathroom Renovation

Posted on

Adding reclaimed elements to your home looks fabulous, and it's a theme you can integrate into any room including your bathroom. Are you doing plumbing renovations for everything from the plumbing to the fixtures? Then, check out these must-have reclaimed items:

1. Antique Chest of Drawers Vanity

You can turn an antique chest of drawers into a vanity easily. You need to take most of the drawers out of the chest, remove the box portion that holds clothes and then replace the face of the drawers. You also need to remove the back of the chest of drawers.

Then, you simply need to cut a hole in the top for a sink, and plumb in the sink. The cavity you created in the chest of drawers creates room for the pipes to connect your sink to your home's plumbing.

2. Antique Tiles

If you like, you can add tiles to the top of the reclaimed chest of drawers turned vanity. While you can use any type of tiles, antique ones tend to be the most fun, and you can carry the look to the floor if you like.

Keep in mind that the antique tile market is full of one-off gems. You may not be able to find enough matching tiles to cover your entire floor so be prepared for the possibility of mixing and matching unique tiles in a fun pattern on your floor.

3. Reclaimed Plumbing

If you are renovating an old bathroom, you can keep some of the original metal plumbing and turn it into something fun. For example, a few lengths of old plumbing pipes with some metal connectors can be mounted to the wall and used as a towel rack.

You can even use old plumbing pipes to create a circular curtain holder to hang over a freestanding tub or shower.

4. Wine Barrels

Old wine barrels can be a fun and relaxing addition to your renovated bathroom. Small barrels can work as sinks, or you can turn large barrels into personal soaking tubs. If you like, you can even use reclaimed wine barrels decoratively to hold towels or other items.

5. Antique Toilet

Even your toilet can be reclaimed if you like. There is a small market of antique toilets, and plumbing renovations can often help you install these old toilets, and they can also help to make them environmentally friendly. If you want an old chain toilet or an ornate porcelain antique, this may be something to consider.
